Gentlemen of the press, you are welcome to this occasion to intimate you on some issues that bother on the activities of this Local Government. We are pleased to see you all here.

Our Local Government, amidst many bureaucratic bottlenecks, has strived in making sure the right human and infrastructural development is embarked on: putting a round screw in a round hole.

One of our human capacity developments will be demonstrated in the forthcoming Children’s Day celebration. Our administration in collaboration with Baba D and Tosin Jegede, will be giving the children the opportunity to show case their God’s given talents through drama, fashion parade, musical concert, painting and other display.

In terms of education, our administration had rehabilitated nine (9) primary schools out of ten within the Local Government. We have also rehabilitated major roads that serve as links to other roads within our locale. On health care delivery, the two health centres in our Local Government have been renovated with modern equipment and qualified personnel for efficiency. Above all, pipe-bole water has been provided through the construction of boreholes on land and our riverine community.

In terms of environmental protection, our Local Government was visited by an Association called Green Association from Denmark. This group in collaboration with Climate Change Network has joined this Government in the tree planting on Wednesday and Thursday. This however, is the recognition of the unflagging effort of this administration in environmental protection.

In the same vein, European Volunteers from Italy and Estonia on youth development came to our Local Government to organize a programme on health, education, and youth development. These Volunteers picked our Local Government as microcosm of Nigeria.

In collaboration with the Local Government, a program was organized to build the potentials of Nigeria’s youth through our Local Government.

And according their research, Nigerian youths are tolerant, educated, and highly intelligent.

The research of this European Volunteers of seeing Nigerian youth to be tolerant, educated, and highly intelligent is in sharp contrast with the infamous dictum made by the former military Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) that “the Nigerian youths are not capable of leading this country”

He has forgotten that he is one of the Heads of State that bastardized the academia of this country. It is degrading to classify Nigerian youth as being incapable.

Students Movement in our tertiary institutions is the only platform where educated leaders are gotten. It is the only bed rock where young leaders are groomed.

In his (IBB) administration, his incessant arrest of students’ movement leaders in our tertiary institution destroyed the platform for young leaders. His actions made the Nigerian youth look inept and unprepared to lead.

Secondly, during his regime, the educational system was rocked with lot of corruptions. This killed the morale of teachers, reduced their output, and made the students to be sufferers of the social malady.

Aside the setbacks, we are pleased to announce to you that this country still have some educated youths capable of taking a leadership role.

Our corporate world today is being controlled by some educated youths with fresh ideas. They are making waves in our corporate organizations.

Looking at our banking industry, Ladi Balogun the group managing Director/CEO of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) started his leadership role in the financial institution at the age of 21. Presently, he is pulling strings in the banking industry in spite the challenges facing the industry.

Creative writing is one of the most difficult aspects in linguistic. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, in 2008, at age of thirty one (31), won the Commonwealth writers’ Award and the Hurston/Wright legal Award for her short story “Half of a Yellow Sun.”

In the world of entertainment, Asa, a Nigerian musician, at her 20s won the Prix Constantin award and MTV Africa Music Award both in 2008. At the age of 18, she had started conceptualizing the vision of being out standing in the world of entertainment.

This will play down the statement of the former Head of State. We still have educated youths with the right vision to take this country to a greater height.

Governor Raji Fashola, the Governor of Lagos State, at the age of 43 became the Governor. And his administration is giving Lagos State a new look. Governor Fashola was within the youth bracket when he became the Governor.

We therefore urge the Nigerian youth to wake from their slumber. They should stand to face this challenge and prove our old leaders wrong that they are not dullards.

The youths are the architect of even development. They have the right vision.

Gentlemen of the press, welcome you all once more. We trust your objective judgment of our polity. We therefore urge you to live up to your responsibility as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.

Comrade Ayodele Adewale,

Mayor Amuwo-Odofin Local Government.
