SPEECH BY PRINCE SULTAN ADENIJI-ADELE, CANDIDATE OF THE ACTION CONGRESS FOR THE LAGOS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, AMUWO-ODOFIN CONSTITUENCY 1 IN THE FORTH-COMING GENERAL ELECTION, APRIL, 2011.

The Chairman, Your Excellency, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola (SAN)

The Special Guest of Honor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Our esteemed Guests of Honor,

Party Leaders here present

Gentlemen of the Press, Distinguished Ladies and Gentle,

I welcome you all to this press conference where I intend to unfold and discuss my agenda as a candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency under the most progressive political platform in Nigeria, Action Congress of Nigeria.

Our party, the ACTION CONGRES OF NIGERIA under the able leadership of our astute leader and Jagaban Borgu, have served you well in the state for the past twelve years. We have produced Governors of distinguished records of public service, which had made the state the envy of all states in the federation. Our landmarks of progressive pursuits and phenomenal achievements are evidences that we held the mandate to serve you sacrosanct, and a covenant between us.

If voted in as your member in the house, My primary responsibility will be AMUWO ODOFIN CONSTITUENCY 1 and I intend to support the Governor, Babatunde Fashola through progressive legislation and prudent appropriation of resources to bring the constituency to the front burner in our party’s remarkable march to history as the party (ACTION CONGRESS OF NIGERIA) of the progressives, the best party in our history, so far bringing solace and respite to the people of Nigeria and in general and Lagos State in particular. My focus as a legislator will primarily be centred on:

  • Rule of Law
  • Equal opportunities for life’s pursuits
  • Security of lives and property
  • Civilized community morals and societal values
  • Sustainable basic educational programs and employment opportunities
  • After school programs
  • Social responsibility, accountability and transparency
  • Haven for entrepreneurship
  • Economic growth

  • Affordable housing and health programs
  • Water supply
  • Pollution Control
  • Sewage Maintenance
  • Epidemic control (Typhoid)
  • Drainage & Flooding
  • Inter-Government relationship and Community Development
  • Duality of Authority between Federal and State Governments over Festac
  • Recognizing the efforts of organized and classified Residents’ associations
  • Western outlet for 6th avenue
  • Recreation
  • Parks,
  • Sports
  • Entertainment

In my opinion, Amuwo-Odofin occupies a unique position in Lagos State and Nigeria. It houses the most historically important estate in our country – Festac Town. The icon of responsive governance - the Low-Cost Housing Estate in Mile 2 built during Alhaji Jakande’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State.  The Commercial Centers at the Trade fair and ASPANDA is here. Governor Raji Fashola has commenced on the constructionon of a major highway, which passes through Amuwo-Odofin. Amuwo Odofin has great potentials and it deserves more attention.

I have a vision, which impels me to learn from the needs and pains prevailing and to strategically focus on thoroughly using myself to sustain hope for the future. I know for a fact that governance is about public service. In seeking your cherished votes, I come to you with antecedents in ‘TRADITION OF SERVICE’, having been brought up and tutored in an environment where service to humanity has been raised to its greatest heights.

In this tradition, PUBLIC OFFICE MEANS PUBLIC SERVICE. It therefore behoves on me the challenge to extend human horizon beyond limits, breaking down barriers and brightening the collective hopes of this generation for the future. I seek to continue this TRADITION OF SERVICE handed down over the years in the history of THE ADENIJI ADELES

My grandfather, late Oba Musendiq Adeniji Adele OBA of Lagos (1949-64) was the Deputy Senate President, a foremost advocate of education and a frontline activist in the pre-independent struggle which contributed to the emergence of Lagos to its pre-eminent position today. My father, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, the current Lagos state Commissioner for Youths & Sports is a tested hand having been a former Chairman of Lagos Island Local Govt and a dogged fighter for peoples’ right. His older siblings: Late Sultan Ladega Adeniji-Adele was also a past Chairman of Lagos Island Local Govt and Federal Housing Authority (FHA); Princess Adele-Lakanu was also a past Chairman of Lagos Island Local Govt, a lawyer and journalist. With antecedents like these, I cannot afford to fail and God will not allow it.

Finally, I plan to be responsive at all times. I have established a campaign office and this will be converted to a functional constituency office where your member will be at your service, hold town Hall meetings and reestablish a response system that will be effective and satisfying to all constituents.

The final push is on for the elections of April 2011 and there is no better time than now to embark on a massive public sensitization of the key issues in this election; there is also the need to prepare for the Election Day proper and mobilize our constituents to come out and vote. Apart from voting, we intend to defend those votes and make sure they count. These costs money, time and prayers.

Consequently therefore, I am using this medium to seek your moral and financial support to make these dreams achievable. God will bless you all and thank you.
