The Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh has urged the Council to concentrate more on enhancing its Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR).
He spoke during this year’s local government budget retreat. The retreat which was held at Equity Resorts, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State was attended by the Executive Members, Legislators, Management Team, Stakeholders and others.
The Council helmsman noted “we are gathered here to critically reflect on our past performances, X-ray our present position, and realistically project our future.”
He hinted that the Council intend to ” concentrate more on infrastructure, health, education, youth development and prune down on recurrent expenditure, which is why this budget is termed “Budget of Prudency”.
The Council Chief further posited that the “overriding concern should be the harnessing of our efforts, resources and expertise, and the utilization of same in the most efficient manner to sustain the development we have recorded thus far.”
He appealed to all and sundry to pay their taxes and levies for more the dividends of democracy to come to the governed.
“Everybody needs to pay their taxes and levies . It is mandatory. We will also use massive public enlightenment on revenue generation”, he said.
A former chairman of the local government, Prince Rasheed Otolorin advised the local government to adopt pro-active strategy to push up the IGR of the local government, so that the people will feel the dividends of democracy.
Meanwhile, the Head of Administration of the local government, Mr. Adedeko thanked the stakeholders for their input in this Year’s budget, noting that ” they have opened their eyes to do the needful in the area of Internally Generated Revenue”.
