Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State yesterday fete thousands of residents simultaneously in 20 centres across the state for the Christmas celebration.
Ambode stressed that the move was targeted at boosting togetherness among residents and enhance community participation in governance in Lagos without affecting the season.
Ambode, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs Fiyinfoluwa Ogunbanke at the celebration in Amuwo Odofin LGA, stated that the strategy was to ensure greater number of residents participate in governance on the other hand.
” The event gives us unique opportunity to come together in high spirit. It is also a time to showcase our unity, love and tolerance which Jesus Christ symbolizes”, the Governor stated.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGA, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh whilst fielding questions from journalists, called on Christians to renew their hope in God as they celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.
“Christmas is the season of love, joy, generosity and forgiveness. While we celebrate with friends family, we should also spend time to pray for a more peaceful and prosperous nation,” the Council boss stated .
He reiterated the readiness of his administration to continue to ensure peaceful coexistence of adherents of all religions in the local government and offer them conducive atmosphere to practise their faiths.
The Council helmsman further thanked the Governor for the initiative. According to him, the event would promote unity amongst Lagosians.
