The Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGA, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh has warned motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders, commercial buses, shuttle buses and street hawkers to repent from their recklessness or face the full wrath of the law.transportunion

The Executive Chairman said this on Friday, October 20, while addressing the leadership of Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria and National Union of Road Transport Workers at the local government secretariat, Festac Town, Lagos.

He noted that it has become obvious that traffic crimes and robbery are mostly as a result of the menace of Okada riders and street hawkers, as commercial and shuttle buses have also become lawless and reckless turning the 2nd rainbow-festac town axis to a sort of garage. He read the riot act to the leadership of the transport unions and gave them a stern warning to operate within the confines of the law.

” You have refused to stay at the designated area for your operation. You have turned 2nd rainbow to your garage and lawless area and we won’t fold our arms and let you continue this way. The task force of Lagos State is coming very soon. We are alerting you so that you retrace your steps,” the Council Chief warned.

He further stated that, “henceforth, shuttle buses can only pick passengers at the officially designated garage”.

Hon.Adewumi Ogunshina, a member of the legislative arm of Amuwo Odofin LGA, tasked the transport Unions leadership to talk to their members especially the ‘Okada riders’ to comport themselves. He said the situation is getting out of hand, noting that a public hearing on the Okada issue is in the pipeline by the legislators.

Meanwhile, Comrade Babatunde Ogunyemi while speaking on behalf of the Unions appreciated the Executive Chairman for his words of advice. He promised that they are going to change their ways.
