The Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh  has stated that skill acquisition and entrepreneurial programmes were the panacea in tackling the current unemployment problem in the country.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a two-week skills acquisition and mentorship programme,organized by the Engr. Buraimoh led administration  for women and youths in the local government, the Council Chief said  that the skill acquisition programme would solve the unemployment problems facing the youths in the country and help them acquire skills that would make them self reliant,  stressing that  the skills acquired would better the lives of the beneficiaries.


” This concluded scheme is timely because we need wealth and job creators in this era of limited employment opportunity, this initiative is in line with our administration’s job creation scheme, Skill Training  And Entrepreneurial  Programme.

“It is my hope that  the beneficiaries will turn out to be business leaders and managers, which  will in turn employ more people to work for them after they have been established”, the Council boss said.

He further stated that his administration would provide the enabling environment for skilled people to flourish.

” As a government we cannot employ everybody. It is my believe that you are now better equipped to help yourself, community and the society”, the Council helmsman posited.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dayo Isreal, a motivational speaker tasked the beneficiaries to be problem solvers.

” You have gone through a two-week skills acquisition and mentorship programme.  It is  food for a life time.  It now beckons on you all to go ahead and look for problems to solve.

The hallmark of the event was the presentation of certificates to over 1,000 graduands on Make up and Gele; Beads and Wire Works; Decoration and Event Planning; Photography and Video Editing; Fashion Designing; Hair Making; and catering amongst others.
